I take my sketchbook everywhere. Some tell me that I've gotten pretty skilled at sketching scenes and recreating pictures. I have a key method to instantly sharpening the eye: Turn the subject upside down. When recreating a picture, turning the reference photo upside down forces the viewer to focus less on the details, which are sometimes misleading, and more on the general form. When drawing still life, I examine the subject through several angles, tilting my head and closing one eye.
